Cracking, splitting, breaking. These three words are what most women complain about when describing their nails. I have three simple tips that will have your nails in tip-top shape, just in time for this spring’s bright manis.
Just like our skin, our nails and cuticles need moisture. Daily cuticle and nail massages with olive oil, coconut oil, or Shea butter will greatly improve the overall length and strength of your nails. I find it helpful to keep a cuticle cream or oil in my make up bag, that way I can still moisturize while away from home.
Protect and Strengthen
I know a lot of us like to skip a base coat when doing at home manis but please STOP! A traditional base coat helps prevent color from staining our nails, while a protein base coat can hinder stains as well as strengthen. We do so much damage to our nails with various polish changes, hair maintenance and the overall use of our hands. A protein base coat will give your nails the strength they need to withstand the “beating.”
Lastly, our diet can significantly affect our nail growth. Diets high in calcium are ideal for nail growth and strength. This does not mean that you need to chug a gallon of milk, or eat cheese by the block. Other calcium rich foods include: green leafy vegetables, canned salmon or tuna, or calcium fortified foods (orange juice, cereal). Daily multi-vitamins are another great option.
Implement these steps into your beauty ritual. Let me know if you see a difference!
